Marriage is a union of two people that starts with a ceremony that is called a wedding. Very often there are wedding ceremony readings that may or need not be religious in content. Marriage is still a legal contract despite the religious background, and the law requires that the couple sign the marriage certificate in front of witnesses before the marriage can be legally accepted. Wedding ceremony decorations and wedding ceremony music may be important parts of your ceremony, but the only essential component, according to the law, is the signing of the marriage certificate, correctly witnessed.

The White Wedding

Of course other wedding traditions can be much more complicated as soon as you look into different race, social classes and ethnic groups to name a few. Performed by a Christian priest or vicar, the Church ceremony continues to be top of the list as a venue. The traditional white wedding as we know it is really only a service that is popular in the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland and some other Commonwealth countries.

Although unusual a double marriage is a where two couples are married at the same time; related people are the most likely to try for this type of service.

A civil union between two people whether religious or otherwise is commonly called a wedding. Wedding traditions and customs vary greatly between cultures, ethnic groups, religions, countries, and social classes. Although it may seem like the world has turned away from the Christian religion generally, it has not stopped the popularity of a Church ceremony complete with wedding ceremony music. White weddings may be quite normal for those of us that live in the United States, UK, Ireland and the Commonwealth but they are not always pracised worldwide amongst Christian faiths.
